PHOENIX – Anthony DeSclafani dressed at a locker inside the visiting clubhouse at Chase Field on Friday, just as any normal player http://www.arimtex.com/bernie-williams-jersey-c-1_18.html would. Later, he went to the bullpen to throw a 40-pitch side session.
That bullpen session was DeSclafani’s third since recovering from a strained ulnar collateral ligament suffered in spring training, a sign of progress for the 27-year-old Cincinnati Reds pitcher. But it’s highly unlikely the right-hander will be able to return before the calendar flips to August.
“I was hoping at some point after the All-Star Break, because I was really looking forward to going to Yankee Stadium (in late July),” said the New Jersey native, who has been rehabbing in Arizona since spring. “That’s probably not going to happen.”
SEE ALSO: Despite childhood adversity, Tony Jaramillo is most positive Red
AND MORE: DOC: No other All-Star like Chris Sabo
DeSclafani’s session Friday was the first in which he threw more than fastballs. DeSclafani said he threw all of his pitches – curveball, slider, change-up and heater – and that he felt good about his command.
Even though his return could be as much http://www.firestormkennel.com/jay-prosch-jersey-c-1_38.html as a month away, DeSclafani is encouraged by how smoothly things have gone so far.
“I’ve had zero setbacks,” he said. “I’ve made every scheduled throwing session, bullpen, flat-ground. It’s been going well so far, so hopefully it stays the course.”
Rookie update
Right-hander Rookie Davis is on a rehab assignment with Double-A Pensacola as he works back from a back issue, but manager Bryan Price couldn’t guarantee that Davis would at least bump up a level once his rehab stint wraps up. That’s not as much a comment on Davis, but on how overpopulated the Triple-A team is with young pitchers.
The Triple-A squad already has Amir Garrett, Cody Reed, Robert Stephenson and Tyler Mahle as top prospects in the rotation, with Jackson Stephens and Lisalverto Bonilla filling things out. Sal Romano also rejoined the club Friday, although he’ll return to the majors after the All-Star Break.
Some of those guys could wind up in Double-A just to ensure they pitch enough.
“At one point in time, we went to a six-man rotation in Triple-A,” Price said. “Where that might serve a purpose for some, it wasn’t going to Shane Vereen Womens Jersey serve a purpose long term for all. We want them all starting pitching regularly, as opposed to a six-man rotation for the final six-seven weeks of the season.”

Chase Headley never has felt worse rounding the bases.
While the Stadium crowd stood http://www.officialredssale.com/anthony-desclafani-jersey-c-1_8.html and cheered and he received congratulations at home plate from teammates, the Yankees third baseman had a feeling his go-ahead, three-run home run in the sixth inning wasn’t going to stand.
“I thought it was foul,” he said following the Yankees’ final game before the All-Star break. “I was stopping to come back [to the plate].”
Headley sensed right.
After a replay review of his towering shot into the second deck down the right-field line, the call was reversed to a foul ball.
Instead of a one-run lead and his fifth home run of what has been an up-and-down season for the veteran infielder, the Yankees still http://www.rd-corp.com/phil-rizzuto-jersey-c-1_17.html trailed by two, and three pitches later, Headley struck out against former Mets reliever Carlos Torres. The Yankees failed to score in the frame — Clint Frazier flew out to shallow right field and Ji-Man Choi struck out — and couldn’t muster anything over the final three frames either, falling to the Brewers 5-3 Sunday afternoon.
“That’s one of those things that’s really deflating,” left fielder Brett Gardner said.
“It sucks when you’re running around the bases and you know it’s a foul ball,” said Headley, who had two hits and drove in a run. “Ball’s an inch foul. It goes 1 inch the other way, we’re winning the game. But didn’t.
“It’s tough. You’re trying to have a good at-bat. [But] that didn’t affect the rest of it. It’s two strikes, he made a good pitch.”
The reversed home run was symbolic of the lost day for the Yankees, who went an anemic 1-for-16 with runners in scoring position. As a result, they failed to win a series for the eighth consecutive time, and remained 3 ¹/₂ games Tyler Ervin Kids Jersey behind the Red Sox in the AL East while falling into a second-place tie with the red-hot Rays.
“I thought when I hit it up it was going to stay fair,” Headley said. “It hooked a lot more than I thought it was going to.
“I was hoping I misread it, and it was fair. But I had a pretty good feeling it was foul.”

One Texas town found a new way to celebrate D'Onta Foreman.
Texas City, Foreman's hometown, officially named July 8, 2017 as "D'Onta Foreman Day" this weekend and hosted a celebration for the former Longhorn and Stingarees running back. Foreman even received a proclamation from the mayor.
Foreman spent his high school career at Texas City High School where the amassed 4,382 rushing yards and 61 touchdowns. With the Stingarees, Foreman become a second-team 4A All-State player and even shared the District 24-4A MVP honors with his brother, Armanti, after his senior season in 2013.
While an often overlooked three-star http://www.firestormkennel.com/jeff-allen-jersey-c-1_23.html recruit, Foreman eventually signed with the Longhorns as a part of the 2014 class. He went on to spend three seasons with Texas, recording 2,782 rushing yards, which puts him at No. 9 on the school's all-time rushing list. This past season, he won the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation's top running back, before getting selected by his hometown Houston Texans in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Now as Foreman prepares for his upcoming NFL training camp, Texas City decided to have a day dedicated to the hometown star.
"D'Onta, the City of Texas City is so proud Weston Richburg Jersey of your accomplishments," the proclamation read. "Congratulations on your draft with the Houston Texans! We wish you much success with all your future goals."

By Dan Duggan | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com
The Giants continued their youth http://www.officialpiratessale.com/tony-watson-jersey-c-1_16.html movement in the backfield by selecting running back Wayne Gallman in the fourth round of the draft. Gallman was Clemson's leading rusher in each of the past three seasons, helping the Tigers win the national championship last season. The 6-foot, 210-pounder is expected to complement 2016 fifth-round pick Paul Perkins.
As a fourth-round pick, Gallman is assured of a roster spot. The bigger question is if he'll be able to earn carries. Perkins is the No. 1 back and Shane Vereen is entrenched as the third-down back. It will likely come down to a battle between Gallman, Orleans Darkwa and Shaun Draughn to be the third back in the rotation.
What happened in 2016
Gallman had 1,133 yards http://www.officialredsprostore.com/drew-storen-jersey-c-1_9.html rushing (4.9 yards per carry) and 17 touchdowns in his redshirt junior season. He had 51 fewer carries than in 2015 when he set Clemson's single-season record with 1,527 yards. Gallman accepted the reduced workload to help the team and it paid off with a national title.
What to expect in 2017
Expect Gallman's rookie season to start like Perkins' did. Perkins saw limited offensive action early in the season, mostly working on special teams. Perkins eventually assumed a bigger role because veteran Rashad Jennings was ineffective. Gallman may not get the same opportunity if Perkins is able to maintain the strong form he Billy Hamilton Womens Jersey showed late last season. Gallman should be a staple on special teams as a rookie. Anything more than that should be considered a bonus.

Manager Clint Hurdle simultaneously http://www.rd-corp.com/jorge-posada-jersey-c-1_40.html acknowledged Saturday the work that pitchers Steven Brault and Drew Hutchison had done at Class AAA Indianapolis while cautioning against the conclusion that they deserve roster spots.
“They’ve both been able to pitch deeper into games,” Hurdle said. “Now the hard line is deciphering [Class AAA] numbers and big-league numbers.”
Brault has been on a roll since May. After eight scoreless innings Thursday, in which he struck out nine, he has a 1.29 ERA in his past 11 games, 10 of them starts. Hutchison, in seven games since May 29, has a 1.86 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 38⅔ innings.
“What they’re getting done is they’re becoming more consistent,” Hurdle said. “They’re executing pitches. Their command has gotten better incrementally. Their execution of the pitches is better.”
There is not an opening in the rotation, and the bullpen, Hurdle said, has been too shaky recently to accommodate a pitcher with a learning curve on pitching in relief.
“I think you have the conversations,” Hurdle said. “The challenging part is, you take a guy like that, it’s going to be case-specific because they don’t pitch back-to-back days. You get them hot and they don’t get in, how do they respond? That doesn’t mean you can’t do it, but those are some of the challenges that are going to come with it. If you’ve got a bullpen that’s airtight at the time, you can take on a different project. We’ve had a couple different projects going through our bullpen from time to http://www.texansprosale.com/zach-cunningham-jersey-c-1_3.html time already.”
Rehab for Marte
Starling Marte, who was suspended 80 games after testing positive for Nandrolone, will begin a rehab assignment Sunday with high-Class A Bradenton.
Marte is eligible to be activated July 18.
International signings
Sunday marks the beginning of the 2017-18 international signing period, when teams can make official deals with amateur players who are at least 16 years old.
The Pirates have $5.75 million to spend, the highest possible amount allocated, because they received a competitive balance “B” pick in the amateur draft as a small-market team. The new collective bargaining agreement placed hard caps on these pools.
Baseball America linked the Pirates to Dominican outfielder Juan Pie, a left-hander with good bat speed who likely will play left field. The publication reported that he is expected to sign for around $500,000.
Mercer sits
Not only did Jordy Mercer not bat first or second Saturday against San Francisco Giants left-hander Matt Moore, he was out of the lineup entirely.
Mercer traditionally punishes left-handed Brian Roberts Womens Jersey pitchers, but this season he is 9 for 60 (.150) against them with a .511 OPS. He was also 3 for 26 in his past eight games. Max Moroff started at shortstop.

First-half surprises View Drop Down
Quota First-half surprises Quota  RispondiRispondi Link diretto a questo post Postato: 14 Lug 2017 alle 10:22am
The first half of the baseball season is in the books, as is the All-Star Game. The Cincinnati Reds are 39-49 entering the season half, although it http://www.firestormkennel.com/kevin-johnson-jersey-c-1_27.html wasn't the disaster of a half the Reds had a year ago.
Here's a look back at the three biggest first-half surprises, and a look forward at questions yet to be answered in the second half.
The lineup is deeper than most would have predicted. The biggest lineup surprise is easily the play of All-Star shortstop Zack Cozart, who is hitting .312/.394/.547 and has boosted his walk rate significantly. But he's not the only surprising performer.
Left fielder Adam Duvall, an All-Star a year ago, is posting even better numbers than he did back then. Right fielder Scott Schebler has been nearly Duvall's equal, with a .327 on-base percentage and .529 slugging percentage. Tucker Barnhart looks like a better hitter than in 2016, and Eugenio Suarez has continued to get on base despite a month-long slump, something he couldn't do a year ago.
On top of all that, Joey Votto has unlocked yet another level of amazing offensive performance at age 33, and is a legitimate MVP candidate. Scooter Gennett has lit the world aflame as a super-sub. Jose Peraza and Billy Hamilton are the only weak spots, and Hamilton has come around as of late.
The Reds have more good relievers than they can carry. Entering spring training, five bullpen spots were spoken for, a situation that was unchanged by the surprise designation for assignment of right-hander Jumbo Diaz. It's clear now the Reds didn't need to keep him around.
Raisel Iglesias and Michael Lorenzen have performed http://www.newjersey1861.com/will-tye-jersey-c-1_43.html to or above expectations at the back of the bullpen, and Tony Cingrani has pitched well since returning from injury. Drew Storen looks to be a smart, low-cost signing, and rookie Wandy Peralta pitched himself into a leverage role within the first month of the season. Blake Wood is the only regular who would really qualify as a disappointment so far.
Beyond those six, the Reds have enjoyed flashes of excitement from Austin Brice and Ariel Hernandez. Kevin Shackelford got roughed up in his only big-league appearance, but has dominated Triple-A and will receive more opportunities. Jimmy Herget has cruised through the minors and could help the big-league team at some point, though he's not on the 40-man roster.
Just about every rotation option has already been tried. When Jackson Stephens made his big-league debut in the final home stand of the first half, he became the 22nd of 23 pitchers on the 40-man roster to appear in the majors. Only Keury Mella, currently in Double-A, has yet to appear. There is no way the Reds thought they'd cycle through this many young pitchers so quickly.
Injuries have forced their hands to an extent. Losing Brandon Finnegan after just 14 innings left a huge gap to fill, as did losing Anthony DeSclafani from spring until at least August. Scott Feldman has been a stalwart, but plenty of young pitchers behind him have struggled and earned demotions back to the minors.
There's been some hope recently, with Luis Castillo, Sal Romano and Stephens pitching well in recent opportunities. But if the season of Amir Garrett is any indication, a handful of good starts is not exactly an indicator of future Gregory Polanco Authentic Jersey success when rookie pitchers are involved.
Who is still here on August 1? Any veteran set to hit free agency next year is an obvious trade chip, with Cozart leading that pack. The Reds have talked openly about trying to explore a hometown-discount extension with Cozart, but if that happens it would need to occur before the July 31 deadline. Otherwise, they risk losing him for no compensation at all.
Storen and Feldman are also obvious chips, with Storen the most likely to be moved. With the rotation's struggles, it's debatable whether the Reds could really survive without Feldman soaking up quality innings. Plus, with the rotation probably lacking in predictability next season, would the Reds think about extending Feldman for one more year? Would Feldman?
The most aggressive the Reds might get would be to trade Cingrani, who has two more years of team control remaining. But, he'll get progressively more expensive each year in arbitration and the Reds are deep in the bullpen, so they could probably spare him. More blockbuster-type moves like trading Iglesias or Hamilton seem unlikely at this point.
Will any rookie starters figure things out? Yes, the performances of Castillo, Romano and Stephens have been encouraging. But they lack track record. Castillo has four starts under his belt, and only one that would qualify as great. Romano has two, including one clunker, and Stephens has only his strong debut. They'll need to add many, many more to solidify spots in next year's rotation.
If they don't, the Reds will give Triple-A guys a second shot. Is Robert Stephenson finally ready to reach his potential? Can Cody Reed get out of his own head and let his filthy stuff go to work for him? Is Amir Garrett's confidence in his abilities warranted? Can Rookie Davis get on track after an injury? Will Tyler Mahle be added to the 40-man roster and get his shot?
The Reds need some positive answers on at least a few of those guys, or else much of this season will have felt like a waste.
How will the Reds finish the season? Entering the second half, the Reds are on pace for the No. 6 pick in the 2018 draft. That wouldn't return as high-caliber a player as the No. 2 pick has the last two drafts, but it would still result in a highly-ranked prospect. The Reds are 9.5 games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies, who are on Johnny Bench Authentic Jersey pace to pick first overall.
But Cincinnati is also 9.5 games out of first in the National League Central, despite currently sitting in last. Reds manager Bryan Price -- on whose 2018 contract option the Reds must decide later this summer -- has said his team is only a solid rotation away from competing. That's true, although actually finding those solid starting pitchers in time to make a run is unlikely.
The Chicago Cubs, currently in second place, just added starting pitcher Jose Quintana from the Chicago White Sox. The first-place Milwaukee Brewers could add at the deadline as well, and the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals could all reasonably convince themselves that a key addition or two could vault them atop the division race. It is much, much harder to make that argument for the Reds. But if the young pitching suddenly does gel? Who knows.

Which Top Remaining View Drop Down
Quota Which Top Remaining Quota  RispondiRispondi Link diretto a questo post Postato: 17 Lug 2017 alle 5:54am
The 2017 free agent signing period kicked off on March 9th and most solid players were scooped up within the first 48 hours.
We now sit here four months later http://www.yadeos.com/cam-newton-jersey-c-1_7.html in mid-July. The draft is done, rosters are largely set, and teams are getting ready for the start of training camp.
And yet, there are still a few solid free agents still on the market.
The Ringer put together a list of the The 16 Best Available Free Agents and as I reviewed the list I saw several players who could help the Carolina Panthers. I will outline my top three players below but would like to get the CSR community to weigh in on this as well.
Here is the list of free agents:
Offense – Ryan Clady (OL), Nick Mangold (C), Austin Pasztor (OL), Vincent Jackson (WR), Anquan Boldin (WR), Gary Barnidge (TE), DeAngelo Williams (RB), Colin Kaepernick (QB).
Defense – Jared Odrick (DL), Jason Jones (DL), Dwight Freeney (DE), DeAndre Levy (LB), Perry Riley (LB), Darrelle Revis (CB), Leon Hall (DB), Corey Graham (S).
Here are the parameters to work with:
1. Assume it is a one-year deal for 2017 only.
2. Assume the salary is fair and Dave Gettleman is happy with the contract. The Panthers have $15 million in cap space, so assume Gettleman is content with how the contract and remaining salary cap end up balancing out.
3. Assume the player will sign in Carolina and play as the coaching staff determines (e.g. starter, backup, position change/flexibility, etc.)
With that in mind, here are the top three free agents I would like to see the Panthers sign and why.
1. Darrelle Revis, CB
Even after signing Captain Munnerlyn, I still view corner back as a position of need for the Panthers. James Bradberry and Daryl Worley had good rookie seasons in 2016 and should continue to improve in 2017, but neither is a true “lock down” corner just yet. Plus, there is no virtually quality depth behind them.
I would feel much better about the http://www.arimtex.com/gary-sanchez-jersey-c-1_35.html Panthers ability to defend the pass, especially against four-receiver sets or long passing situations, if Revis was thrown into the mix at corner. Per Pro Football Focus, Revis was the 24th-ranked corner in the NFL over the last 10 games of the 2016 season, so he still has some gas left in the tank.
In the real world, salary would probably be an issue. But for the sake of this discussion, let’s assume Gettleman could would out the compensation and remaining cap space.
2. Anquan Boldin, WR
I might get shouted down here, but I don’t like the Panthers receiving corps at all. Losing Ted Ginn and Corey Brown and their combined 81 receptions and 1,028 yards in 2016 will be hard to replace with Carolina’s current crew of mid-level free agents and unproven rookies.
Kelvin Benjamin is good, no doubt, but he’s not a dominant, game-changing, No. 1 receiver like many other teams have. There is a huge productivity gap between Benjamin and the NFL’s top tier of No. 1 receivers like Julio Jones, Odell Beckham, and Antonio Brown.
Devin Funchess should be much further Jeff Allen Youth Jersey along after two seasons and is coming off a disappointing 23-371-4 campaign. 2017 will be his third season and is feeling like a “make or break” year for the former second round pick.
Free agent additions Charles Johnson (entering his fourth season) and Russell Shepard (entering his fifth) have yet to distinguish themselves as dependable receivers. Rookie Curtis Samuel looks explosive, but it usually take first year receivers time to learn a new offensive system and get in sync with their QBs.
When assessing Carolina’s receiving corps, consider this fact: Outside of Kelvin Benjamin, no other Panthers WR has ever exceeded 500 receiving yards in a season.
Read that sentence again.
Then consider what Anquan Boldin would bring.
Yes, Boldin’s old for a receiver at 36, but he’s also smart, tough, and dependable. Last season Boldin produced 67-584-8 with the Detroit Lions, which exactly is the type of consistent production the Panthers need.
Plus, I just think Boldin’s a winner. He’s always passed my “I’d go to war with that guy” test. His toughness and likely desire to play for a contender late in his career could be a good fit with Carolina.
3. Ryan Clady, OT
If you don’t know how quickly poor tackle play can derail a promising season, just watch the 2016 Panthers debacle. With injuries to Michael Oher and sub-par play from Mike Remmers, Cam Newton spent most of Carolina’s 6-10 season running for his life.
Even though Matt Kalil was brought in as a high-priced free agent, he has struggled in recent years and is far from a sure thing.
Daryl Williams is serviceable but not starter caliber.
Second round pick Taylor Moton could be very good, but expecting a rookie to step in and immediately contribute at tackle is a big ask.
Nobody knows what to expect from Michael Oher.
Clady is a lot like Matt Kalil. Both are former All Pros who have struggled with injury and inconsistency in recent years. With Kurt Coleman Womens Jersey tackle being the second most important offensive position behind QB, I’d be open to taking a flier on Clady to see if he could recapture at least some of his 2014 All Pro mojo.
Who Would You Sign?
Now it’s your turn, CSR community. If you were GM, which available free agents would you sign?
List your top three in the comments below, or feel free to weigh in on my take.
Happy signing.

Injection of speed, View Drop Down
Quota Injection of speed, Quota  RispondiRispondi Link diretto a questo post Postato: 17 Lug 2017 alle 8:00am
Let’s face it.
Other than a stellar season from tight end Greg Olsen, who became the first in history at his position to record a third http://www.yadeos.com/brenton-bersin-jersey-c-1_43.html consecutive 1,000-yard season, the Carolina Panthers’ group of receivers certainly didn’t dazzle in 2016.
As quarterback Cam Newton tried to make the best of an offensive line riddled with injuries, most of his receivers were of little help. They struggled to separate from defensive backs and provide quick targets for Newton as a makeshift pocket collapsed around him again and again.
Carolina sank from a tie for third in the NFL in passing offense in 2015 to tied for No. 19 in 2016. Other than Ted Ginn Jr., who departed for New Orleans in free agency this spring, Carolina had no “burner” speed, and there were few threats on short to mid-length routes.
In the draft and in free agency, the team set about correcting that, adding traditional slot receivers as well as multi-faceted, speedy players known for their attention to detail and ability to create space.
The Panthers also hired energetic new receivers coach Lance Taylor and added former slot star Jerricho Cotchery as an assistant who will specialize in developing the inside players.
Breakout candidate
After three years in Tampa Bay, receiver Russell Shepard was signed by Carolina in free agency this spring. The Panthers saw an up-and-comer in Shepard, whose receptions and targets increased every year during his time with the Buccaneers. They also saw a player who could fill the “gunner” role on special teams left vacant when receiver Philly Brown signed with Buffalo in free agency.
But in organized team activities and minicamp this spring, Shepard showed he’s ready for much more than a supplementary role.
Shepard ran with the first-team offense largely in the slot and at times on the outside, and made several big plays against an energetic and stifling defense. He also felt comfortable immediately in jawing with other players and putting a jolt into the offense.
To be decided in camp ...
Carolina added running back/receiving threat Christian McCaffrey with the No. 8 pick in the 2017 draft, then doubled down with http://www.arimtex.com/dellin-betances-jersey-c-1_36.html receiving/running back threat Curtis Samuel with pick No. 40. That showed the team is serious about infusing speed.
McCaffrey and Samuel can both line up all over – including at running back – so at training camp in July and August it will be interesting to see the looks and disguises they offer the defense while moving at full speed. Carolina seemed to plod on offense last season, but that should change. Both players are known for their ability to make linebackers miss, which will extend the mid-range plays the team will likely use to get the ball out of Newton’s hands faster.
This is also a big season for receiver Devin Funchess, whom head coach Ron Rivera admitted this spring wasn’t utilized to his maximum ability last year (he had 23 catches for 371 yards, a 102-yard drop from 2015, and four touchdowns). Funchess is in the third year of his four-year rookie contract and needs to prove what he showed flashes of last year - that he is a dynamic and versatile option for Newton. He’ll get that chance.
Charlotte local Austin Duke Lamar Miller Womens Jersey was signed as an undrafted free agent, and is a long shot to make the 53-man roster in an overcrowded receivers room.
But Duke hardly looked like a rookie during spring workouts and wasted no time making a great impression on coaches and teammates – including Newton. Duke did just about everything for his team in college as a Charlotte 49er, and has the versatility and attitude the Panthers value.
Also keep an eye on ...
Kelvin Benjamin experienced a dropoff in performance from his 2014 rookie season to 2016, which may have been partially because he spent 2015 rehabbing a torn and then repaired ACL.
But after a few glaring mental mistakes and questions about his effort and attitude last season, 2017 will be a make-or-break year for the former Florida State phenom.
General manager Dave Gettleman picked up Benjamin’s $8.5 million fifth year option this spring, but it’s only guaranteed for injury. That means that Carolina could cut him before the start of the league year in 2018 and not owe him any money. Benjamin already made a poor impression just before spring workouts by reporting overweight, but there is ample time for him to turn things around and get some positive momentum in training camp.
Three bold predictions
▪ Duke makes the final roster, edging out fellow undrafted free agent Fred Ross.
▪ Motivated by viral response to his weight gain (and loss), and by the younger, faster players in the room, Benjamin matches his 1,000-yard rookie season.
▪ Aided by his new quick-route Michael Oher Youth Jersey options in McCaffrey, Samuel and Shepard, Newton’s completion percentage spikes from a career low 52.9 percent in 2016 to a career-high 65 percent in 2017.
